About Romania

Travelling to Romania offers visitors a variety of cultural, historical and outdoor experiences to take part in and enjoy. Not only is Romania an incredibly beautiful country, but has so much to see and do for any visitor. From Dracula’s Castle to the Parliament Palace, from mud volcanoes to the Black Sea, you’ll never be bored in Romania.

Highlights of a trip to Romania include:

Bucharest

Romania’s capital and often called ‘little Paris,’ most people agree that the star attraction of Bucharest is Parliament Palace, the second largest administrative building in the world, after the Pentagon, with 1100 rooms in this 12 story building. Originally built as the palace of King Carol II, it later became the building to house the Senate and Deputy of Romania. Most agree, it is an amazing neoclassical building of bronze and steel, and definitely warrants a visit.

The Berca Mud Volcanoes in the Buzau Mountains

Welcome to ‘the gates of hell,’ as the Romanians call it! Imagine going high up into the mountains and seeing mud domes, small volcano looking formations created by underground gas and heat. If you’ve ever been interested in seeing a mud volcano up close, this is one of the few places to do so. Many say that the scenery is similar to the moon, with large cracks and craters etched into grey brown land, with few plants and wildlife nearby. You’ll have to see it to believe it.

Constanta

There’s no better place to view the Romanian Black Sea than in Constanta, Romania’s third largest city. This is the largest port on the Black Sea and home to beautiful beaches with extremely calm waters. There are amusement parks, shopping, archeological ruins, a casino, old churches and mosques as well as history and art museums to explore. The Danube Delta is a stunning point of interest about 80 miles from Constanta, a UNESCO wildlife reservation there are literally thousands of birds, fish, plants and wildlife that call this center home. It’s the perfect place to go bird watching and see one of Europe’s biggest wildlife reserves. It’s also the perfect place for amateur and professional photographers to visit.

Brasov

Welcome to the winter sports capital of Romania as well as one of Romania’s large cities. The city is famous for its Black Church, the largest Gothic church in all of Romania and between Vienna and Istanbul. The church has an impressive Gothic exterior and baroque interior, with amazing organ pipe concerts three times weekly.

Transylvania

About 16 miles away from Brasov in Transylvania sits Dracula’s Castle (or Bran Castle,) and is said to be the former home of Vlad Tepes. It’s also the former home of Queen Marie, and tourists can come and see her collection of art and furniture, displayed in the castle. The castle boasts an incredible view of the city of Bran, and is a beloved visitor’s spot.

Sibu

Visit Balea Lake, a beautiful glacier lake located in the Fagaras Mountains and a site of extreme natural beauty. In the summer, you can only reach it by car and the remainder of the year, only by cable car. It’s the perfect place to experience the bounty of nature, and see animals like lynx’s, eagles and marmots. It’s also got gorgeous mountain scenery and waterfalls, perfect for taking walks or climbing, rowing on the lake or even skiing in winter. There is also the first ice hotel in the world in Balea Lake, the Balea Lac Hotel, where the entire hotel is made of ice-the walls, floors, ceilings and even the cups that you drink out of is made of ice.

No matter how you choose to spend your holiday in Romania, you’ll never run out of things to see and do.
