About Walsall

Located in England’s West Midlands, Walsall is a huge industrial town. It lies on the east of Wolverhampton and northeast of Birmingham. The town was once a part of Staffordshire; Wallsall is the administrative headquarters of Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, an important West Midlands conurbation as well as a part of Black County.

One of its greatest attractions is The New Art Gallery Walsall. This contemporary art gallery is located at the heart of Walsall. This gallery replaced the old one in the year 2000. Designed by Caruso St. John, it covers an area of 5,000 sq m. It houses the Garman Ryan Collection of modern paintings and sculptures, which include works by Jacob Epstein, Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Constable and Corot represented in sculptures, paintings, drawings, sketches, prints etc.

An archive of Epstein was acquired by the gallery in 2006, which comprised manuscripts, sketches, photographs and correspondence between the artist and his family and friends.

The gallery has a permanent collection which comprises Victorian paintings by artists Fiona Banner and Catherine Yass. It also houses works by Rose Finn-Kelcey, Yinka Shonibare, Richard Woods, Estelle Thompson, Darren Lago, Laura Ford, Dorothy Cross, Yoshihiro Suda, Hew Locke, Gavin Turk, Mike Nelson etc. Art lovers should get cheap flights to Walsall to visit this gallery.
