One of the central provinces in Thailand, Samut Prakan was once the seaport of Siam but became a stronghold for King Rama II in 1819. Samut Prakan was derived from Thai words Samut which means ocean or sea and Prakan which means fortress or stronghold. The beauty of this province is somewhat enchanting with its ancient forts still standing. These are the Pia Sua Samut and the Phra Chulachomklao which were erected in 1893.
When visiting this place you are sure to be amazed by primeval structures like Fort Chulachomklao which played a very compelling role in preserving the domination of the Thai nation in 1893. Inside it is King Rama V monument. And Phra Samut Chedi that was constructed under King Rama II and that keeps the most ancient Buddha’s relic.
