About Nottingham

Also known as the ‘Queen of the Midlands’, Nottingham is famous for its association with the legend Robin Hood. It is one of the three main cities in England’s East Midlands, the other two cities being Derby and Leicester. It is the industries of coal-mining and lace making that has helped this city reach its present prosperity. Nottingham today has developed into a more service-based economy.

Nottingham has a whole lot of tourist attractions that can be liked by children, young adults as well as elders. Hence, taking cheap flights to Nottingham with your family is not a bad idea at all. When in this city, you can go out to explore fascinating caves or have a tour of the museums to get an idea about the culture and history of Nottingham.

One of the greatest attractions in this city is the Nottingham Castle which offers a panoramic overview of the city. The castle was built in 1068 after the Norman invasion by the son of William, the Conqueror. It stands witness to several sieges, intrigue and murder. It has also been home to Robin Hood’s enemy, the Sheriff of Nottingham. The castle was, however, ruined after the Civil War and was replaced by a superb ducal manor in the year 1674. It was again converted into a municipal museum and art gallery in the year 1875. A very interesting part of this tour is an exploration of the tunnels and passageways under the castle.

Southwell Minster is the prettiest cathedral not just in Nottingham but also in the entire England. The cathedral was originally built in 965 and was later redeveloped by the Normans in 1108, the work of which was finished by 1150. The Scottish soldiers badly damaged the church during the Civil War, completely ruining the palace of the Archbishop.
