Rabaul, situated on New Britain province, Bismarck Archipelago in Papua New Guinea is a town known for its vulnerability to volcanic eruptions. Rabaul is located within a caldera and surrounded by several volcanoes. Its archipelagic location is strategic for ports for trade and tourism. In 1994, the town was nearly destroyed due to a volcanic eruption, which covered the whole province with ashes. Falling ashes caused most of the town’s buildings collapse one by one. Moreover, the festival also display different styles of expressing culture through sculpture, music, literature, architecture and many other diversified activities. This annual event was organized by the Papua New Guinea Cultural Commission. This is also considered as the legacy of the country’s mask culture showcased through a program of cultural performers. Spirits, Ancestors, and the Tumbuan are the categories of the displayed masks.
