Tourists who want to travel into the African continent may not pick Somalia as a likely destination not because it lacks interesting qualities but because of its unstable security due to the war going between the government and outside forces. Somalia is literally a war zone and therefore, not a safe travel destination today. It will be easier and safer to go to other countries than take chance crossing the Somali border.
However, if there’s really a need to travel to the cities in Somalia you should take an extra precaution to keep yourself out of harm. Cities like Beledweyne may not be the safest place for you but like in the Somaliland, it is relatively peaceful compare to other towns and cities in the country. Cheap flights to Beledweyne however are not very common so when going to this city you should fly to Hargeisa and then travel by land to reach Beledweyne. If you’re coming from Ethiopia you may be able to reach Somalia and ultimately Beledweyne by bus or car but be advised of the danger that may come your way when crossing the borders.
It will be more practical to finish your business as soon as possible and leave at once to avoid being caught up in the chaos but if you’re going to stay in Beledweyne for a while make sure to secure a safe accommodation in the city. Hotels in Beledweyne may not be plenty but there are lodging places all around the city that provides good accommodation.
Statistically speaking, Beledweyne is one of the largest cities in Somalia; it is in fact the fourth largest with a population of more than 68,000. Some of the most notable Somalian residents live in Beledweyne like Former President Aden Abdullah Osman Daar which is the country’s 1st president and the former chairman of the USC (United Somali Congress) Mohamed Farah Aidid.
Though not a common tourist destination, Beledweyne is particularly proud of its good local administrators that continuously strive to keep the city clean, peaceful and safe. Through shared effort by the government and the residents, the city will be as popular as the other cities in terms of tourism in the near future and cheap flights to Beledweyne will be more common.
