At the region of Gedo lies a beautiful agricultural city of Bardere. This city has a breathtaking view of the countryside and the air is vibrating with fresh energy. Although this place is not a major tourist city, there are people who take cheap flights to Bardere just to bask in the freshness of its surrounding and breathe easy for a while.
The name Bardere was derived from a combination of Baar (palm tree) and dheere (tall) so don’t be surprised to see lines and lines of towering palm trees all over the city. Being an agricultural city, the local residents make their living by working on big and small farms all over the city. Most of the crops being produced here are corn, onions, sorghum, sesame and beans. There’s also a tobacco plantation and orchards producing fruits like watermelon, mangoes, papayas, oranges and bananas. Livestock also contributes greatly on the city’s economy.
Generally, Bardere’s residents get around the city on foot but there are public buses to take you from one place to another when needed. Not all the roads around Bardere are paved but they are mostly passable.
Currently Somalia is suffering from internal conflicts and has no central government so it is advisable to take extreme precautions when visiting Bardere and other cities in Somalia. If you took cheap flights to Bardere under official business you have to be aware of the danger of your trip. Usually, foreign travelers are advised to have a bodyguard with them when traveling around the city. Armed guards can be hired if you need protection; there are security agencies in Baardheere that can provide you with armed men to keep you safe during your stay in the city.
Of course, traveling is not all about visiting the whole Bardere; you should also have a place to spend the night or a place to go to after the tiring day. Unfortunately, there are no listed hotels in Bardere. You can however go to the nearby cities to find decent lodging houses, apartments or guesthouses that you can rent to the whole duration of your trip.
