About Bamako

One of the largest cities in West Africa, Bamako is an important city not only to its home country of Mali but to the rest of the region as well. It may not be as rich or not commercially significant as other cities but it is home to about 1.7 million people and that is enough reason to give it its rightful mark in the map.

The Ups and Downs of Visiting

There are numerous attractions that could inspire people to take cheap flights to Bamako. Among them is the Mali National Museum where a rich collection of local art, textiles, and other artifacts are displayed. Point G Hill is a worthwhile climb because it houses several caves that have rock paintings in them. They could tell more about the prehistoric times of the city more than any museum display. Point G Hill also offers luscious views across the city.

The Bamako Botanical Gardens and the Bamako Zoo feature a huge area teeming with flora and fauna and wildlife. Visiting the zoo is mostly a charitable act for many as the animals dwelling here are in poor condition. They need your fees to pay for their food and other necessities.

Let’s face it. There are not too many people getting interested about taking cheap flights to Bamako. That’s because the city is not as developed as other tourist destinations. In fact, there are only a few paved roads available. With the rest, you have got to endure dust during the dry season and mud during the wet season.

The downsides should not put you off. Bamako is a beautiful place. It has pretty good rooms for improvement but that should not shadow the value of the city as it is.

Food is an additional reason for you to try the trip. French colonies, which invaded the city in the 1900's, left some remarkable cuisine culture to Bamako. There’s the fact that locals consider bread, especially delicious baguettes as part of their daily grind. Aside from bread, rice, cassava, beans, and eggs are a staple to a local’s diet.

Bamako is a nice place. Poor but nice. Do not expect to find luxury restaurants or flashy hotels in Bamako. Find it elsewhere but not here.
