About Chamonix Mont Blanc

Street Dr. Paccard

A statue was erected in memory of the physician and botanist and the story goes that Dr. Paccard climbed Mont Blanc with a thermometer, a barometer and a compass, as he was merely trying to achieve some scientific experiments!

The Mont Blanc tunnel

Commissioned in July 1965, the Mont-Blanc tunnel connects by road Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (Haute-Savoie, France) and Courmayeur (Aosta Valley, Italy). A gallery with two-way traffic, the tunnel was built amid opposition from the locals who were worried about the budget.
