Mostaganem is a town with a sea port and located in the northern portion of Algeria. It is situated on the Gulf of Arzew and the site of Bordj el-Mehal or the old Citadel.
The town has two distinct land divisions; from the left bank lies the modern city while on the right is a traditional Muslim city. Between these two quarters are ravines of Wadi Ain Sefra.
Mostaganem has beaches that are good for bathing and swimming activities found in the southwest portion of the city. The good beaches are found in La Salamandre and some in Les Sablettes.
