Manila’s Port Area is a district where the Port of Manila is situated. Some of Manila’s most famous landmarks and attractions are in or around this district. The historic Manila Hotel where Gen. Douglas Macarthur lived is here, and so are Rizal Park, Fort Santiago first built in 1571, the old walled city of Intramuros also built during the Spanish colonial period and home of the country’s oldest institutions, with eight churches and buildings also of the colonial era.
Within short distances are Binondo which is the oldest Chinese enclave in the world, Malacanang Palace where the President lives and seat of government, the National Museum of the Philippines and the San Agustin Church built in 1606. Manila’s casinos and VIP clubs are clustered in this general area.
Roxas Boulevard starts from the Port Area and stretches to Paranaque City at the intersection that leads to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Located along this eight-lane arterial road are Rizal Park, the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex, convention and trade centers, government buildings, the embassies of the United States and Japan, four museums, hotels, and restaurants, the Manila Yacht Club and educational institutions.
Aside from the 5-star 570 room Manila Hotel built in 1909, other notable hotels in the Port Area and vicinity with three to five star ratings are the Manila Pavilion Hotel, Hotel H2O, the Bayleaf Hotel and Best Western Hotel the Bayview Park Hotel. Tourists who want to save can stay in any of the many motels, guest houses, apartments, inns, hostels in the area. They can also save money by avoiding the high-end restaurants and take their meals at food courts, burger stands or in local eateries with ready-to-eat food.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport is a short 25 minutes’ drive away. More than two dozen international and domestic airlines operate out of the airport, and cheap flights to Port Area of varying terms and conditions are available. An alternate route to Manila is to fly to the Clark International Airport in the Clark Freeport Zone and travel 80 kilometers south to Metropolitan Manila. Several airlines have direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Busan-Seoul-Incheon, Hongkong, Singapore, Taipei, Bangkok and Macau. Visitors from these cities can take this route instead of booking for cheap flights to Port Area at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
