Located in North Jeolla, Iksan is a city in South Korea that is popular for its historical temples and landmarks. It was once the capital of Baekje Kingdom, an ancient country. Long before the Iri Train Station exploded, Iksan has been known as an important transport facility. At present, although the city is still in the process of improvements and regular construction, it is a nice place to visit in terms of outdoor activities, festivals, jewelries, and good, affordable food.
When you get to the city either by train or cheap flights to Iksan, one of the places you should not miss is the Jewelry Museum. This world-class museum opened in 2002 and houses many antique jewelries of the Baekje Kingdom. It has over 110,000 rare gemstones and dinosaur skeletons. Take note of the admission fee, which is 3,000 won for adults and 1,000 won for children aged 7-12.
Various themed festivals are held every year in Iksan. Needless to say, festivals in the city are most awaited because of the one-of-a-kind presentation and the worthwhile experience they provide. Some of the best festivals to witness when in Iksan are the Seodong Festival, Iksan Jewelry Expo, 10,000,000 Chrysanthemums Festival, and the Stone Culture Festival.
Cheap flights to Iksan also give you the chance to experience the rich flavors of Iksan dishes. There are many restaurants around the city, which serve hot pot (shabu-shabu), sweet and sour crunchy tofu, and bibimbap with fresh salmon. Mouthwatering western dishes such as burgers, fries, and potato pizza are also available in some selected food outlets, such as Café Lemon Table.
Traffic jams are very common in Iksan. Therefore, when getting around the city and when going to a nearby location, consider walking instead of riding a bus or taxi. Bike rentals are not available, but getting one would be convenient if you plan on staying longer or moving here. The fastest and most convenient way to get to Iksan is by booking flights to the city, while trains are your second best option.
There are plenty of accommodations to end your long day in the city. Needless to say, hotels in Iksan though are not as luxurious as hotels in Western countries, are clean and comfortable for the whole family.
