About Crosshaven

Travel to Crosshaven, a charming little town in the larger city of Cork Ireland, also called the 'other capital' of Ireland or the 'rebel city.' Crosshaven is a beauty of a town to visit for its harbors, oceans and sublime views of the water.

Tip: Cork Harbor is one of Crosshaven's most well known attractions, with Crosshaven located right at the mouth of Cork Harbor. Cork Harbor provides hours of fun and excitement for the whole family. Did you know that it was the last 'port of call' for the RSS Titanic, the famed 'unsinkable ship'? Did you also know that it's also an area with numerous sea birds, and is protected because of its ecological significance? It's also one of the largest harbors in the world, and home of the Royal Cork Yacht Club. It's also the site where the oldest Yacht Club in the world had its first charter boat sail. With stunning views and so much to see and do, it's a surefire place to visit and enjoy.

Visiting Spike Island is not only visiting an Island, but a step back into history. The Vikings first came and laid claim to this island, with Spike Island later used as a cruel detention and holding center by Oliver Cromwell. This was often before they were deported and loaded onto ships for anything from outspokenness, to stealing bread for a starving family. It later was a military base and is now available for touring and visits, with informative guided tours of prison cells and so much more. Please note, that there are often steep climbs here, and it may not be suitable for those who are elderly, very young children or the disabled.

Crosshaven House was built in the mid-1700's as a mansion, and was once home to the Hayes family. This stately, elegant mansion was constructed of limestone, and is three stories tall. Though it's often used as a wedding or reception hall, it would be worth a trip to come peek at its front, or call first to take a walk around this stunning piece of history.

Fort Camden has been in existence since the 1500's and used ever since during the Napoleanic Wards, and later as a site of a prison. During World War One, it was used as a base in the navy. It is continuing to undergo a long process of restoration and hopefully will soon be open. Presently, there are tunnels under the fort which visitors can travel in with tea rooms and awesome views of the Harbor. Stop in for a cup of tea, a great view of the harbor and check out the tunnels.
