There are many fascinating historical cities in Mexico, many of which have grown up around the silver mining industry. In Northern Mexico the city of Zacatecas has a rich historical past and is popular with visitors. Luckily there are cheap flights to Zacatecas and so the city is ideal for those looking for a weekend away somewhere interesting.
One of the most prominent buildings in the city is Zacatecas Cathedral. Located on the ruins of pre-Hispanic temples this pink stoned building is beautiful to see. Many of the buildings have the distinctive pink stone colour which is all part of the mining heritage of this area. Taking a walk around the town to see the architecture is a good way to see the city at its best. The Plaza Das Armas is the traditional centre of town and where a lot of activity occurs, particularly at festival time. Flighthub has the best deal to Zacatecas and is an excellent resource for planning a vacation.
In Zacatecas there are some great museums to visit which are all part of the historical culture of the city. The Museum of Zacatecas is located on Cerro de la Bufa which in itself has played a part in history. This is where the Battle of Zacatecas was fought during the Mexican Revolution. There are opportunities to take a train into the mines too and to see some of the industrial past here.
Zacatecas has some great places to eat with typically Mexican food on the menus. The street food is interesting to see as well. This is a beautiful city with a lot of atmosphere and the cheap flights to Zacatecas are worth snapping up for an adventurous and interesting weekend away.
