There are world-renowned tourists’ sites, flocked to by thousands every year, and there are some that still need to be discovered. Gujranwala in Punjab Province, Pakistan is one of the latter. One of the biggest cities in the whole country, it is primarily an industrial and agricultural town. They are known to manufacture engineering tools, machines, electrical items and so many others. It is also the foremost producer of export grade melons, grains and sugarcane. It would follow that there are cheap flights to Gujranwala to be had.
Tourists do not frequent this area, considering that there are so many other places in the country to visit. But it is worthy to note that the famous Chinese pilgrim Hsuan Tsang visited this spot in the year 630. It also has a very interesting culture since it was ruled over by numerous empires like the Mughals, Siks and of course, the British in the late 1800s.
Gujranwala also boasts of several schools, from primary to tertiary education although it is not the center of education in Pakistan. Interestingly, it is dubbed the city of wrestlers (due to the high number of bodybuilders and wrestlers). They have several body building competitions like the Kabbadi matches and weight lifting contests. The locals will also insist that they are the city of great food. They are quite famous for their barbecue with a local twist. For those not so adventurous, KFC and other American fast food restaurants can be found in town. Some of the top hotels in Gujranwala include the Marian and the Shelton Hotel. They are well-known in the whole country for hospitality and quality service. It is also a great place for shopping with a lot of local and even international brands.
Urdu, being the national language, is spoken by most. However, being a melting pot, you would hear over a dozen more of different dialects. Foreigners need not worry though because a lot of the locals can understand and speak English. The city is accessible by road, rail, water and even air. It only takes three hours of driving from Islamabad. Again, cheap flights to Gujranwala are a dime a dozen with two airports servicing it: Sialkot and Allama Iqbal International Airports.
