Arguably, Iran has the most diverse landscape in the whole world. One can visit the Persian Gulf or the Caspian Sea for a beach getaway. Hiking, trekking and skiing are favorite activities in the Alborz. For those more adventurous, staying with nomadic tribes in the deserts or looking for archaeological digs of ancient settlements and towns are very possible in the area too. Amol, located in the Mazandaran province of Iran, is the epitome of the best Iranian experience.
Amol is quite an old city. The Amards and the Ashkanian lived here long before the Aryans settled in the area as well. Various empires fought and ruled over this area including the Sassanians and the Mongols. It is possibly because of the brilliant natural landscape that Amol was bestowed with. Tourists, both local and foreign ones, are awed by places like the Mazandaran Sea, Alborz Mountains, Yakhi Waterfalls, Mount Damavand (highest point in all of the Middle East), the green fields of Namarestah and the hot springs in the area. History lovers will enjoy going to some of the oldest standing structures in the area. These include mausoleums like the Mashhad Mirbozorg, Naser-Ol-Hagh and the Mir Heydar Amoli. The Mohammad Taher Shrine is a good place to see as well.
Today, Amol is a thriving metropolis. One of the things they really lack is an airport so there are no cheap flights to Amol. Some of the most famous companies in Iran have main offices located in this city. Good secondary and tertiary education is being offered here as well. Islamic Azad University, for instance, is one of the biggest universities in the Middle East. Because the city appreciates the steady stream of visitors from other places, hotels in Amol are not very difficult to find. The most notable ones are Shahrdari, Sadaf and Lutos. Foreigners in Amol (or in Iran, in general) will enjoy shopping and eating out. Do take note though that Iran does not have a lot of international brands.
Amol is accessible through various ways. Locals find it easier to drive around town and to neighboring locales. Of course, some use the train, too. The city has a railway station in place. Numerous bus lines service the city. The nearest airport is Sari Dasht-e Naz International Airport, less than a hundred kilometers away, located in Sari. Although there are no direct cheap flights to Amol, it is still very easy to get here.
