The city of Xiamen is situated at the southeastern coast of China and serves as the main tourist destination of the Fujian Province. Since it is near coastal areas, the city is known for its wonderful seascape. The city, in the ancient times, carried the main seaports. It has wide gulf deep water minus the silting and freezing. Xiamen literally “a gate of China” and it definitely serves as a gateway to the country. The city is composed of different islands –Gulangyu Island, Tong'an County and Jiulong River’s north bank area as well as the Xiamen Island. All in all, the city is connected to the mainland county through various bridges, mainly the Xiamen Bridge and Gaoji Seawall. Another name that the city is known for is Egret Island due to the thousands of egrets thriving there.
Visiting Xiamen can be done all year round. However, you may want to avoid going there during the typhoon months. If you desire to enjoy and taste of the seafood delicacies here, do it at the night market and do it earlier as the night market is very popular to both the locals and tourists. You may want to rejoice and be responsible for your own garbage as Xiamen is considered as one of the China’s “National Recognized Clean City”. Therefore, as a tourist and visitor, make sure that you read the rules and regulations about their sanitation.
August is the typical monsoon/typhoon month and you may want to avoid going to Xiamen during this month or you will get soaked in rain. Also, typhoon season may cancel most of the transportation; especially the plane flights and other tourist destinations might get closed.
