Wevelgem is a beautiful municipality situated in the West Flanders, a Belgian province. It is well-known because of the annual event, the Gent–Wevelgem Bicycle Race, which culminates in the town. The Lille Airport is the nearest airport to this place and is about 37 km away from its center. The Kortrijk-Wevelgem International Airport is situated partly in Wevelgem and partly in Bissegem, Kortrijk. It is primarily a business airport though it is also utilized by schools and flying clubs. An interesting place to visit is the Moorsele Airfield which is actually a military and recreational airfield situated in Moorsele, a village in Wevelgem. No military aircrafts are posted at the field and very rarely, any military activity is seen. It allows restricted civilian activity and generally plays the role of a light aviation field for ULM and is actively involved in parachuting activities.
Moorseele Communal Cemetery is the final resting ground for many soldiers belonging to the British Expeditionary Force, who lost their lives after the German invasion that took place in May 1940. All the casualties involved in the withdrawal to Dunkirk have found their final abode here. Moorsele Communal Cemetery is also the resting ground for 15 Commonwealth soldiers who were victims of World War II. Six of these martyrs were, however, unidentified. Sint-Theresiakerk Church, Wevelgem is a magnificent structure constructed in 1930-1931. It is built chiefly of white stone or weisser stein, along with some other type to accentuate its beauty. You could spend a day roaming in and around Harelbeke, a municipality situated in West Flanders. Harelbeke is only about 19 minutes away from here and is close to the Gravensteen, which is a Middle Age castle situated in Ghent. The current castle was constructed in as early as 1180 under the patronage of count Philip of Alsace who was inspired by the crusaders’ castles.
