In the northwest China, particularly the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region there is a place considered as a gem at the foot of the beautiful Tianshan Mountains. This place is called the Urumqi, and is a significant location situated on the ancient Silk Road. This beautiful city is located in Bogda Peak and the famous Salt Lake in its east, with pine-covered Southern hill on its south, and the Zunggar Basin on its northwest. If you plan to tour this city, go here during the early autumn or late spring.
Of course, you will want to get the most of your money when you tour around Urumqi. If you just landed from the Urumqi Diwopu International Airport, which is situated just 20 km outside downtown city, do not hire taxi or even the stations; instead, take the bus. Taking the Airport Shuttle will just cost you around 15 RMB (renminbi). Taxi from airport may cost you 50 RMB.
Between the railway services and taxi, the train is budget friendlier than taxi. You can use the train to get by and travel the localities. The Urumqi Railway Station can be found on Qingfeng Road. Also, use the bus in going around the city. If you are looking to save money for your food tripping without sacrificing the quality, get your foods from street food stalls or at the local restaurants. As much as possible, eat the local foods instead of the western food. Looking for a hotel to stay can be a tricky one and you have to carefully do bargaining and research for an affordable hotel stay.
The Tourist resources in this region are also readily available and you should take its advantages especially if you want to know more about the ancient Silk Road, which is an important road for both the eastern and western cultures and countries.
