The former town of Goyu was officially incorporated in Toyokawa City in 1959. Goyu was famous for being filled with inns that serve weary travelers. In Toyokawa today you can still see the Pine-Lined Goyu Avenue that used to be a main pathway for travelers going north to Edo (present-day Tokyo). It’s one of the popular destinations not only in Toyokawa City but also for Aichi Prefecture as well. It is very interesting to experience what tranquil place weary ancient travelers had experienced traversing this road. Budget’s an issue no more because there are available cheap flights to Toyokawa online.
The nearest airport to Toyokawa is the Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya where you can ride the Meitetsu Airport Line. Transfer to the Meitetsu Nagoya Line and go down to Ko Station where you can transfer to the Meitetsu Toyokawa Line. If you are coming from JR Central, you can get down at the Toyokawa Inari Station at the Iida Line. Remember to buy cheap flights to Toyokawa at your trusted airline ticket purchasing stores only.
At the end of the Pine-Tree Lines Goyu Avenue, there is also the Tokaido Pine-Trees Visitor’s Center where a museum is established containing old woodblock prints and historical displays of the different old inns in Goyu. Another equally important cultural destination in Toyokawa is the Toyokawa Inari where merchants then and now are praying success for their business ventures. You may see thousands of waving flags around the temple; these are the prayers of merchants who came earlier. This shows that Toyokawa was an important resting point for travelers and merchants back then. If you prefer a more engaging trip, the Akatsukayama Park is an open public space where there are sports and waterpark facilities, as well as the “Gyo-Gyo Land” freshwater aquarium and “Ani-Ani Maru” animal sanctuary.
You may not find so many budget hotels in Toyokawa City. There may be some inns that offer cheap rates, and they are not so bad either. If you’re willing to splurge a little, Toyokawa has hotels with amenities that will surely fulfill your stay in the city. You can try Chisun Inn, Hotel Route Inn, and Iseya Honten just south of Toyokawa Inari shrine.
