More famous as a commercial hub and a wool-production centre, Tilburg in North Brabant province is a largely undiscovered tourism destination though it boasts of quite a few things of interest. With plenty of cheap flights to Tilburg via Eindhoven available, you can easily plan a trip there.
As you enter Tilburg, the first tourist attraction that will beckon you is the city centre that is crammed with historic monuments. Among the most noteworthy is De Heuvel that used to be a hub of activity since the town’s only water source was located there till the late 19th century. You can see some more of the historic structures in St. Dionysius Church that sports a 15th century belfry tower in the Old Market.
You must visit the city hall that once served as a secondary school; Vincent van Gogh who learnt drawing there was its most famous student. The historic spot, Vincents Tekenlokaal, promises an engrossing trip for tourists. Another interesting place to visit is the Audax Textile Museum, the country’s only museum dedicated to textiles; here, you can see a large assortment of textile production equipment, materials, artifacts and, of course, textiles. The Kessels Music Instrument Museum and a converted wool-mill that now houses the Museum De Pont, with a vast collection of contemporary art, are worth the effort of a visit as is Abdij Koningshoeven, a French Trappist monastery that took an unusual recourse of establishing a brewery for sustenance.
Another reason to book cheap flights to Tilburg is Natuurmuseum Brabant, a museum of natural history with an extensive collection of biodiversity from all over the world. Naturalists and children will appreciate the delights of the De Oliemeulen Animal Park and Reptile House which houses several reptiles, birds, amphibians and other unusual inhabitants. There are a number of hotels in Tilburg that offer all modern amenities albeit at affordable rates so that you can have an enjoyable and leisurely stay without feeling a pinch in your pocket.
