Thun is a little city nestled in Bern Canton’s Bernese Highlands, at the lower end of the popular Lake Thun. It is the gateway to Bernese Oberland. This historic old town is about a kilometer away from the shore of the lake, on Aare River. The old town houses a castle that was built in the 12th century and a museum.
This city offers different attractions for different seasons namely summer and winter. While summer is the time for enjoying water sports and spending time at the beach, winter is the time for skiing and hiking.
Take cheap flights to Thun in summer to walk around the old town and visit the castle. Wocher Panorama should also be seen in Schadau Park. It is a 360 degree circular painting that is 7.5 m high and 38 m long, depicting the 1810 town-life of Thun.
During summers, you can go for diving, surfing, sailing and, of course, bathing in Lake Thun.
If you love scenic beauty, you should not miss a visit to Niederhorn, Niesen and Stockhorn which are some of the most popular vantage points.
If you wish to enjoy the cold and ice, get cheap flights to Thun during winters. Stockhorn is one of the most popular spots for skiing and hiking. Another such popular spot is Nierderhorn.
Cruising on Lake Thun is a popular attraction for both summer and winter visitors.
You can also visit Tower House, a historical museum which houses artifacts belonging to pre-historic, early historic as well as middle ages. Besides, it also comprises a toy exhibition and ceramic collection. You will also get to see uniforms and weapons of 18th and 19th century.
When you are done with sightseeing, you can shop at Baelliz-Street or Obere Hauptgasse, take an acrobatic flight in a 1930's Swiss military biplane or have a swim in Lake Thun or River Aare. However, you must be extremely careful while swimming in River Aare because of its strong undercurrents. You may also have a drink on the Muehleplatz, go surfing and sailing and rent yourself a bike and ride along Lake Thun or River Aare. Settle yourself at the cozy hotels in Thun and have a relaxed holiday there.
"Sleeping Giant" Rock Formation
Lying on its back in Thunder Bay, Ontario, is the Sleeping Giant Rock Formation. When viewed from the west the mass of hills and mesas looks like a large man sleeping on his back.
