Tejar city is the current administrative center of El Guarco Canton province in Costa Rica. This modern district covers a total landmass of 167.69km squared and boasts an overall population of about 36,291 people. There are amazing attractions found in this place and nowhere else in the country, carry along a good camera, as there’s a lot to capture in this beautiful place.
The region’s key attraction is a set of ecological parks that were set aside to preserve rare and endangered animals. Chirripo Park is a high mountainous peak that was formed thousands of years ago from volcanic eruption. It rises to about 3,820m above the sea and is a great place for viewing untamed wildlife. This reserve covers three distinct provinces alongside the city and these are Limon, San Jose and La Cartago. Chirripo can be subdivided into 5 distinct ecosystems which include lowland wetlands, premontane, low montane, subalpine forest and montane rain forest. Visitors can pay a small sum to hike these rugged hills which go up to 10.3 miles high, there are good tour guides at San Gerardo that can be hired to take you up these hill ranges at very friendly rates. Another popular park is Parque Internacional which literally means Friendship Square. This is the only Costa Rican natural reserve that shares a border with another country which is Panama. In total it covers an area of 401,000 ha and encompasses a rich tropical forest with immense biodiversity, nevertheless there’s an extensive 15 kilometers buffer zone which represents the entire biodiversity of this region.
This is quite a popular park and is surrounded by indigenous farms that produce coffee, tea and beef cuts for export. Scientists believe that the park has 7,500 plant varieties, 380 herpetological sets and 17,000 beetle breeds. You would not want to miss all the wild fun found here when coming to Costa Rica for your holidays. Moving on, the best hotels in Tejar are found few meters outside the city, they are very comfortable and spacious since the hustle and bustles of town life are not felt in these locations.
