The Paleontological Reserve is the principal such reserve in the Gala?i County; the 84 hectare grounds are located in the south of Liesti around the village of Hanu Conachi on the sandy plains of Tecuci. The Barbosi palaeontological reserve occupies an area of around 1 hectare where the 400,000-year old molluscan fossils can be inspected. Near the Tulucesti village in the Prut River valley is the Rapa Bala paleontological reserve. Another important paleontological reserve is located near Tecuci; the 1.5 hectare is situated on river Bârlad’s lower terrace at La Rates.
