Soroti is one of the most progressive areas in Eastern Uganda. A fairly good irrigation system is built to support agriculture in the municipality. Other industries are beginning to pick up and generate significant revenues. Tourism continues to flourish as evident by addition of cheap flights to Soroti and local government’s initiatives to preserve tourist attractions.
Soroti is a dwelling place for diverse spirituality. There are several mosques, Hindu temples, cathedrals, Anglican churches and even worship centers of the Sikh. Indian influences are still reflected in the architecture of the buildings around the city.
Hotels in Soroti will allow you to easily access premier tourist destinations in the district. A world-renowned rock formation out of volcanic ashes is arguably the most famous touristic spot in this side of the country. As you reach the top of the Soroti Rock, you will be given the best seat in the house to view the breathtaking lush vegetation of the city. The Lake Kyoga is another highlight of Soroti. A member of the continent’s Great Lakes System, this one plays a significant role in maintaining a rich marine ecosystem in the district. Aqueous plants found in here include water lilies and hyacinth. There are nearly fifty species of fish thriving in the lake. It is also home to plenty of crocodiles. Canoeing, boating and boat racing, fishing, sunset viewing, bird watching and sightseeing are some of the activities that you can enjoy while at Lake Kyoga. The Anamulemuka Island in the Lake is a beautiful place that nurtures wildlife and endangered species. The Lakes of Opeta and Bisina are highly regarded for their incredible collection of butterflies.
The government is very particular of implementing strict security measures in Soroti to protect important institutions of the country such as the National Social Security Fund office, Soroti Flying School and Uganda Finance Trust Unlimited.
For the past few years, the city’s airport has been quite busy catering to cheap flights to Soroti, and consequently the surge in visitors. The Soroti airport boasts the longest runway in all of Uganda.
