Located in southwest Friesland, Sneek is well-known to tourists for its rich heritage, scenic surrounds, vibrant culture, and especially its canals and water-sport facilities. There are lots of cheap flights to Sneek being just 87 km from the international airport at Groningen.
Sneak has a number of historically significant buildings; The Great Church of Martini, built in the 11th century, is an imposing structure with three towers. The Wilhelmina Park with its special design, trees, plants and animals is a great attraction to the young and old. The over-100 year old park is particularly rich in interesting and impressive trees and children will enjoy the aviary with ornamental and gorgeous songbirds and a well-equipped playground.
The most famous event, the Sneekweek, is held annually in August; the largest inland waterway sailing event in Europe that is inaugurated with a naval review and a grand fireworks show is accompanied by a fair and a mammoth market.
