North Eastern Brazil is a fascinating region to visit and has many beautiful cities. One of these is Sao Luis with an interesting history. Founded by the French it is a typically Portuguese city and has many interesting things to see and do. One of the best bits about visiting is that there are cheap flights to Sao Luis which makes this an excellent place to see on a short break.
Sao Luis is renowned for its exquisitely tiled buildings and the ceramics are stunning. This is a lovely city to explore on foot and take a look up close at the tiling. It also makes the city really colourful and decorative. The city itself is divided by the river flowing through it but a walk around town is interesting. Sao Luis also has some beaches which are variable but Ponta D’Areia is the most popular. Further down the coast the beach of Sao Marco is very pleasant and attracts visitors. Flighthub has the best deal to Sao Marco and is worth checking out.
One of the main reason for coming to Sao Luis is the festival season and in June one of the best known, Bumba-meu-boi, is a highlight of any visit. This is celebrated by the black community of Sao Luis and tells the story of a bull. Look out for the costumes and music. Sao Luis also has three malls which are interesting to visit and there are some general shops too. The cheap flights to Sao Luis are just the thing for a last minute vacation or to visit family and friends.
In Sao Luis there are some good restaurants which serve both local and cuisine from Portugal and France. There are some good cafes too and stopping to taste the coffee is a good move here as it is grown locally. There is a lot to see in this area and it is worth a visit so start planning the journey.
