About Santarem

Leziria do Tejo’s capital is the lively Santarém city which consists of green plains, stretching to the horizon. The region has some proud traditions like bull and horse breeding. The place is also famous for the bullfights hosted there. Every year, thousands of tourists take cheap flights to Santarém to witness the legendary bullfights and participate in the annual National Agricultural Fair.

Cabacas tower is another beautiful sample of ancient architecture. This defensive tower houses a Time Museum which exhibits things that depict the measuring of time over the ages. Fountain of Fig Tree is also a must visit for the rarity it represents in the form of 14th century architecture.

There are some churches and convents that should be visited as well like Convent of Saint Claire, Church of Saint John of Alporao, Cathedral of Santarém, Church of Marvila, Church of Grace and Convent of Saint Francis.
