At the boundary of Costa Rica nestled San Juan, a charming port at the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. This port is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region because of its lovely beaches and different beautiful sceneries. Every year a considerable number of people take cheap flights to San Juan just to bask at this tranquil paradise.
Reaching the place is easy if you’re coming from Managua or Rivas since there are plenty of taxi and bus that can take you to San Juan. Budget travelers can inquire about ‘colectivo’ taxi to save on transport cost. The fare is very cheap for about 35 Cordoba though the taxi is a little bit crammed with people. From Costa Rica, you can also reach San Juan by riding the bus heading to Rivas and stopping for another ride at the Pan-American Highway. Direct cheap flights to San Juan from international countries are not possible since there’s no airport serving the place. Travelers would have to land at the airport in Managua and take a land transport to reach the area.
There are many things to do and see in San Juan especially if you don’t mind using your feet to walk around the area. Aside from basking at the beach, you can also try surfing, fishing, sailing and wave riding. The canopy tour is also an exhilarating activity and provides great view of the whole place or if you want the traditional ranch adventure, you can try one of the horseback riding tours in the area.
Dining is not a problem since there are plenty of choices in the area ranging from budget diners to mid-range pizzerias to fine-dining restaurants. Bakeries, sandwich house and café are also located at the town proper. Also at the town center are several market and commercial stalls selling everything from basic groceries to toiletries to cleaning supplies to local produce.
Those who will be spending a few days in this place can find good accommodation all over. Some of the great hotels in San Juan are Pelican Eyes Hotel and Resort, Hotel Colonial, Casa Blanca, Mango Rosa, Buenavista Surf Club and Villas de Palermo.
