The best tourist destination in northwest Vietnam, about 380 kilometers from Hanoi, is blessed with wonderful and charming terrains. It is considered a border town to China, where people not known to Vietnam previously inhabited. Artifacts composed of petroglyphs that date back to 1400s were left as memoirs of those previous dwellers. Today, however, Sa Pá is home to various ethnic minority groups enjoying both the natural beauty and gems of the place.

A decade ago, tourists do not consider Sa Pá as a nice destination because it is far from the country capital and people are not quite aware how beautiful the place is. Along with the government’s efforts to grow the city’s economy, tourism started to grow as well. People take cheap flights to Sa Pá to see its charming area of mountains and rice fields. Agriculture is pretty active in this town but there are also historical sites worth checking.

The common activity of tourists in Sa Pá is trekking. There are different levels of difficulty that can be found in this mountainous region. Visit Hoang Lien National Park and be amazed with rock formations. Muong Hoa River is another point of interest where you can take shots of a luscious landscape.

You may also check out the ethnic villages and have a great time bonding with the minority groups. Just keep in mind that not all villagers are willing to have their picture taken so before you hit the shutter, make sure that you ask permission first.

When you take cheap flights to Sa Pá, remember that the Gothic catholic church that was built in the 1930s makes for a nice starting point of exploration. You can get to the town center from there and find shops and stalls lots of interesting sights altogether.
