About Roi Et

It is more convenient to get in by cheap flights to Roi Et because the province is 7 hours by car from the capital city of Bangkok. Two airlines service this Thai province with daily flights to and from Bangkok.

Tourists don’t have to go far to see the sights. In the center of the province is the 20,000 square meter Phalanchai Lake where tourists can borrow a boat and row around. Another tourist spot is the park of Roi Et Somdet Phra Srinakharin with a fountain as centerpiece. Flowers and plants are everywhere, and trees provide plenty of shades for visitors strolling in the park. Wat Buraphaphiram is a monastery housing the tallest Buddha structure in Thailand. The image is more than 59 meters high with museums under its base.

Also, there are two more monasteries with rich histories that should pique the curiosity of tourists. The temple of Klang Ming Muang with a shrine hall that dates back to the 14th century has murals that depict the life story of the Lord Buddha. The monastery of Sa Thong is the home of the Happy Buddha statue (Luang Pho Sangkatjai) which was found in 1782.

The other attractions in the town and environs are the Roi Et National Museum, the stone structures of Prang Ku or known otherwise as Prasat Nong Ku, the Selaphum which is a reservoir with white sand at its bank and a favorite tourist spot during holidays and the huge temple of Wat Pha Nam Yoi set in a mountain that commands a view of the countryside.

It is not all about tourist spots and attractions in Roi Et. This is a place of festivals, too. The Kin Khao Chi Feast and the Pho Chai Products Feast or known also as the Bun Duean Sam includes a competition of large Khao chi cakes and a beauty competition. Hence, the festival called Kin Khao Pun Bun Phawet is held every March, the Bun Bangfai Feastl is held around June, the Candle Festival featuring floats decorated with flowers, also, the Longest Boat Racing of Tambon Mueang Bua in the Kaset Wisai District is held every October.
