The Portuguese parish of Póvoa de Santa Iria is located in Vila Franca de Xira municipality. The parish was formed out of Santa Iria de Azoia, a neighbouring parish in Loures municipality. The parish was a village at some point of time but now strong population growth and industrial development have made the city an important and popular destination for many who catch cheap flights to Póvoa de Santa Iria. The ‘city’ status was awarded to it in 1985.

Main attractions to watch out for in Santa Iria de Azoia are Municpal Gallery Castle Pirescoxe, Castle Pirescoxe, Church of Santa Iria de Azoia which includes the filling, Convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceicao, Gardens and Palace of Valflores etc. The city also has the country’s oldest tree which is almost 2850 years old. Vila France de Xira is a big city and has a number of beautiful sites and attractions to look at.
