Northern Brazil is a very interesting part of the country to visit and is less frequented by tourists than some of the other places. There are interesting cities here and plenty of opportunities to hire a car and explore the region. There are cheap flights to Porto Velho which makes a great base for touring around. These deals are easy to find online so why not start planning that journey.
Porto Velho is a modern city that has grown up around the railway, even though there are no trains here. A walk downtown has a surprising amount to see though. The water towers beside the railway are one of the most photographed scenes in Porto Velho. There is a cathedral in the downtown area and a cultural arts centre and both are interesting to visit. Porto Velho has a weekly market which is fun to watch and there are a few shops selling crafts in town. Flighthub has the best deal to Porto Velho and is worth checking out online.
The surrounding countryside is interesting to visit and many people hire a car. There is also horse riding in the area. Visitors can drive towards Manaus or there is a boat that travels there twice a week from Porto Velho. There are plantations nearby and lots of places to take walks. In Porto Velho there are dances each week and some great places to eat. Many serve regional specialties which are fun to try. One of the best things to try in Porto Velho is an acai which is grown locally. They are delicious and very cheap.
Although Porto Velho does not see very many tourists there are hotels and lots to see and do in the surrounding countryside from a brewery visit to river fishing. The cheap flights to Porto Velho are ideal for seeing more of the area and for travelling onwards to Bolivia or Manaus. Why not take a look and see what the area has to offer.
