About Petange

Pétange is a town and commune in south-western Luxembourg, which has a comparatively high population considering its small size. As is the case with other towns of Luxembourg, there are no direct cheap flights to Pétange and you need to avail the Luxembourg-Findel Airport to reach the town. However, that is hardly a concern because the town is just a short drive away from the said airport. Though Pétange has a limited number of tourist attractions, it is still worth a visit because of its beauty and calmness.

The first thing to see in Pétange is the Fond-de-Gras railway and museum. In fact, the thrill lies in getting to the museum itself because Pétange is connected to the industrial park and actual museum via a heritage railway. The train journey is an experience in itself being a 6 km ride on a steam locomotive. Once you reach the park, you will get transported straight to the 1990's which was the time the area developed thanks to a booming steel and iron mining industry.

If you have booked cheap flights to Pétange, you should visit Titelberg, a hill and residing place of an old Celtic settlement known as oppidum. Apparently, this settlement was a flourishing community and capital of the people of Treveri in 1st century BC. Presently, excavations have been done on the site so that you can see several old structures of buildings. This site is proof of the fact that Luxembourg and Pétange was inhabited as a whole before the arrival of the Romans. Some of the excavations also point to the fact that the settlement was later conquered by the Romans who then built their own structures.

Summer is the ideal time to visit and book hotels in Pétange because many of the attractions mentioned above are not open in winters. Pétange has mild summers, with the average high temperature ranging between 21 and 22C. Rainfall, however, cannot be avoided no matter when you go because it is consistent throughout the year. Winters are, obviously, cool but not freezing so that you can expect a comfortable and nice atmosphere if you visit the town at that time.
