Odorheiu Secuiesc is located in the Harghita County in the region of Transylvania. The medieval fortress is situated in the city’s southern part and is easily its most recognizable monument. While principally it served as an integral part of the town’s defences between 1493 and 1561, a Dominican monastery was established there. Odorheiu Secuiesc’s Town Hall was built in 1986 following Stehlo Ottó’s eclectic style designs; the stateroom is considered to be particularly beautiful. The Unitarian fortified church at Dârjiu, a UNESCO World Heritage monument, is a truly magnificent building; the wall painting depicting the legend of St. Laszlo is perhaps the best such representation in the world.

A number of Romanian companies have got together to organise the 380 kilometre-long Harghita International Mol Prevent Rally; each year sees the participation of car rallying enthusiasts from around the world.
