The St. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cathedral, an 1885 Greco-Roman church restored in 1951, has murals that combine neo-Byzantine style with elements of Romanian decoration. The Great Mahmudiye Mosque, combining the architectural elements of Byzantine and Romania, has a tower soaring 164 feet that affords a stunning view of the surrounds; inside, there is a 1,080-pound carpet, one of the largest in Europe.
