About Murcia

Murcia is the seventh largest city in Spain and its main sources of income are agriculture and tourism. The easiest way to reach the city is by plane. There are two airports near the city, San Javier Airport and Alicante Airport. Although Alicante Airport is far, several affordable airlines operate from here and so you can easily get cheap flights to Murcia, if you select this airport as your destination. Both domestic and international flights land in the Alicante Airport. You can take a car on rent to reach the city and check some of the luxurious hotels in Murcia.

The city is famous for its old churches, cathedrals and museums and amongst all the churches, Catedral de Murcia is the most notable. It’s a 600 year old cathedral and the cornerstone was founded by Bishop Fernando de Pedrosa. The interior is based on Gothic style and the most important part of the cathedral is its 95 meter tall tower which took more than 200 years of time to complete. There is no admission fee.

If you want to experience the religion and history of Murcia, then Museo de la Catedral de Murcia is the ultimate destination. It was built in the fourteenth century and exhibits a broad array of archaeological remains and many religious objects.

However, if you are more interested in history and less in religion, it’s hard to miss Museo Arqueológico de Murcia. There are total 16 rooms in the museum and these rooms preserve artifacts from the Prehistoric to the Bronze Age.

Fans of Francisco Salzillo should visit Museo Salzillo. The entire museum is dedicated to this famous sculptor. There are several large rooms in the museum and each room houses large sculptures created by Francisco Salzillo. The most prized possession of the museum is The Salzillo Crib. You may have seen it online but to appreciate its true beauty, you must see it face to face.

You can end the city tour by visiting the famous Castillo de Monteagudo. The castle is located on top of a hill and it’s well preserved. While there are many castles in Spain, this one is special for a particular reason. There is an open arm statue of Christ on top of the castle.

If you don’t want to miss such wonderful places, visit Murcia during your next holiday. Look for cheap flights to Murcia online and spend a few days in this relaxing city.
