Malaysia is a country with a vast land and seascape. There are places that you will need to travel by boat or those separated from the mainland. One example is Langkawi, which is located in the district of Kedah and connected to the mainland through the Straits of Malacca. The local people here are living in the traditional way which is farming, fishing, animal tending and rubber plantations as well as the tourism. You can tour the island year-round because there are no particular seasonal and weather patterns. When you travel, it is recommended to travel lightly by bringing only the things you need like few clothes and IDs. Being a coastal area, expect plenty of beaches. However, make sure that you pay respect to the culture and tradition of this place.
One of the drawbacks of traveling here is the lack of efficient public transportation, mainly because it is an island. Your transportation options are taxis, renting a car, motorbike or scooter and bicycle. Renting bicycles will be the best choice if you want to save money and you can rent one from the hotel you are staying at.
You can ask the front desk of your hotel on how to get to these wonderful places. Beach vacation and touring are the main things you can do in Langkawi. Of course, you will want to taste the local delicacies and food. You will definitely enjoy the Malay-style breakfast which you can find on small stalls just opposite of the Underwater World. Try the freshly-prepared nasi lemak (or the steamed rice in coconut milk and wrapped in banana leaf). Also, enjoy the local teh tarik or milk tea drink which is very creamy yet refreshing. The place also offers rich local coffee. If you prefer to rent a scooter or a car, it is recommended that you pay a visit to small restaurants that are nearby the main roads of the island. You will like eating there. For a very affordable price, you will enjoy large portions of foods. Of course, the farther you go from the beaches, the more affordable the food becomes and the larger the portions.
