About Kinshasa

Kinshasa is the city capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo and it holds the distinction as the second largest French-Speaking urban area in the world after Paris. It is situated on the river of Congo formerly known as Zaire River. Kinshasa was once a fishing village but through the years became a sprawling urbanized area with great growth potentials in economy, trade and tourism.

La Gombe district located in the Boulevard Albert is Kinshasa’s political and business district and presents the city skyline. This is where many domestic and international business headquarters are located including government offices, government-run and commercial hotels and places of entertainment.

Taking the bus from kinshasa bus terminal will connect you to other exciting places in the city. However, a driving tour around the city with a car rental will give you more options thus saving on gas and travel time. From the Boulevrad de Jun or Boulevard Albert, you can drive around the city stopping at different tourist spots like Limete Tower and Lumumba Monument. A few miles away are The People's Palace and Kinshasa Museum. There is also the city's central market where you can buy local goods as well as international brands. However, you must protect yourself from petty crimes like snatching and robbery, as the city has high crime rates and there are some security risks from vagrants and street children.

Many 5-stars hotels in Kinshasa are located in La Combe district. Some of them have overview of the Congo River and complete with in-house bars and restaurants. There are also apartments for rent suited for longer stay in the city.
