About Ikoma

One of the best assets of Nara Prefecture in Japan is the mountainous trails in its Northern cities. Ikoma City, for instance, has greatly developed Mt. Ikoma into a nature trekking destination while taking care of its cultural heritage that any tourist can pass by and view. Towering 642 meters above sea level, Mt. Ikoma naturally divides Nara and Osaka prefectures. If viewing Japanese temples and nature trekking are both your interests, you wouldn’t have to worry about the expenses because there are cheap flights to Ikoma that you can avail of.

You can land at either Kansai Airport or the local Itami Airport at Osaka. If you are coming from Osaka, you need to get in at Kintetsu Nara Line to get off and transfer at Kintetsu Ikoma Line. On the other hand, you need to ride on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line first before getting on to Kintetsu Nara Line. Do not hesitate to ask train station personnel especially if you don’t understand Kanji characters at signages. You can book cheap flights to Ikoma at your trusted ticket sellers online.

Around Mt. Ikoma is the Ikoma Quasi-National Park, where you can enjoy many more amenities for the whole family. Besides hiking up to the peak of the mountain, you can also enjoy quality time at the Ikoma Sanroku Park, where there are sports facilities like a tennis court and a crocket area. Likewise, there are camping sites and a Fureai center in Sanroku Park. At the foot of the mountain is the Hozanji Temple, up towards a long stairway where an old-style Japanese village is preserved.

Ikoma City is very fond of walkways, and the Yata Hills has an expansive pathway that slithers through the city, divided into four areas: Shikisai-no-mori, Kenko-no-mori, Gakushu-no-mori, and Asobi-no-mori. Do not also miss out on the Kuragari Pass, an old Japanese mountain pass connecting Yamato and Kawachi cities. The place is also preserved carefully with attention to detail like the stone pathway and stone Buddha statues.

There are more traditional ryokans than hotels in Ikoma. The city also promotes some recommended tourist accommodations like the Ryokufukaku Hotel and the Shiroyama Restaurant Inn. Wherever you stay in Ikoma, you are assured of the quality of their hospitality and service.
