About Geel

Geel is a beautiful Belgian city situated in the famous province of Antwerp. Its patron saint, Saint Dymphna, encouraged the town’s innovative method of treatment and care for psychiatric patients. This enchanting city featured in the popular novel ‘Shamrock Tea’ by famous writer Ciarán Carson. The Antwerp International Airport is the nearest airport to Geel and is only 43 km from its center.

The Geel War Cemetery is situated in the eastern part of the city and 400 Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives in World War II lay buried here.
