The city of Gambela is located at the Gambela Region in Ethiopia. It is considered a very important place in the region because of its bridge connecting Jajjaba and Baro. Though not a very progressive city, Gambela receives a regular number of visitors because of its accessibility. Aside from having its own domestic airport with regular cheap flights to Gambela and other cities in Ethiopia, the city is also conveniently located and has good road infrastructure that makes travelling to different places around the region easy and convenient.

Gambela may be a little bit remote on many tourists’ standards and may not have a lot to offer in terms of organized sightseeing but the wildlife and the rich vegetation in this city makes cheap flights to Gambela worthwhile. At the town center, you can find various public and private offices and several establishments like restaurants, internet shops, café, shopping center and grocery stores. If you’re into literature, you can visit the library located at the town center and see some of the best collection of classic novels and other important English literature. There are also a number of shops selling various kinds of locally made fabrics, wood crafts and other souvenir products like bubble pipes and woven baskets if you want to buy something to bring home to your family.

Also near the city is the region’s historic park known locally as Gambela National Park. This park offers a lot of things to see. Aside from the beautiful plantation of cottons there’s a refugee camp nearby and several kinds of wildlife like antelopes, monkeys, elephants, baboons, buffalos and different species of birds can be found.

Don’t expect to find 5-star hotels in Gambela because you won’t find any in or out the city but you can have a decent room at the Baro Gambella Hotel for 200 ETB or less than 11 USD. Backpackers and budget travelers can also find a cheaper accommodation at the Ekid Hotel for 50 ETB if they can tolerate a common shower area. Also at Bia Hotel are several rooms with the river view for a hundred birr or less.
