This is an amazing conglomeration of Germany and French cultures represented best in their carnival ‘le carnival des Bolzes’.
A walk through Auge district familiarizes you to the craftsmanship practiced in medieval Europe. Dominated by blacksmiths, Auge was a fortified location with rows of stone houses and an impressive tower, Muggan. St. Nicholas Cathedral dating back to the 13th century. Though construction began in the last decade of the 13th century, it was completed in about 1430. Scholars, historians and travelers in general can find immense interest in the different museums of this city. Study the displays in Estavayer-le-Lac Museum, State Archives, Art and History Museum and Bibliotheque Cantonale University Library.
