San Miguel de Escazú or simply Escazú is the capital of the Escazú canton of San Jose. This side of Costa Rica has always been known for its upper-class offerings. However, it somehow provides a more laid-back ambience that most tourists love.
Escazú can probably be compared to California’s Beverly Hills. While it has a city vibe courtesy of the many establishments, the suburban area gives the peace and quiet ambiance that many look forward to.
Looking back, Escazú turned into a trendy city after it became the home of expatriates and persons of authority like ambassadors and diplomats. Soon enough, the city has become the enclave of foreigners seeking retirement or simply looking for a quiet but accessible place to live in.
As the demographics of the population changed, luxury shops and expensive restaurants came flocking into the city as well. Today, Escazú is considered the shopping and dining district of the country. Costa Rica’s largest shopping center called Multiplaza is just a few minutes from San Rafael de Escazú. This is also where you will find fancy restaurants.
Meanwhile, the Central Plaza features a colonial church that provides a cultural character to the city. You’ll also notice the range of flowers and shrubbery in the city. As a matter of fact, many flock to Escazú during the flower months just to take pictures of its scenic floral offerings.
While the city exudes everything posh, you can still get cheap flights to Escazú. Just make sure to book cheap flights to Escazú that would land at the Tobias Bolanos International Airport in San Jose. While you can also land at the Juan Santamaria International Airport, the former is a lot nearer to Escazú.
Budget hotels in Escazú aren't very common so it’s best to shop around for the best deals prior to your trip. Going for the mid-range and luxury accommodations might also be recommendable if you are in to splurge. The quality of service in these high-end hotels is really world-class.
Some suburban homeowners also offer their houses as vacation homes. You might want to check these options as well. Their rates are usually cheaper and perfect for those traveling in groups.
