Epe located in eastern Netherlands is a typical Dutch town offering a cornucopia of delights; beautiful scenic surrounds, a rich historical and cultural heritage, a lively event calendar, wonderful dining and lots to entertain both demanding adults and children. There is a lot to see and do in Epe; Cannenburch castle, built in the mid-16th century on the remains of an earlier medieval castle, has the atmosphere of a house inhabited by nobility for hundreds of years with its collection of furniture, porcelain, paintings etc. from the eighteenth century. Visit the Exhibition sculpture Oudenhovestraat for a wonderful collection of sculptures created by 30 international artists; these are made entirely by hand from stone, wood, ceramics, steel, bronze and glass. The richly-decorated gallery contains mainly paintings by Russian and Dutch artists and smaller sculptures. Vaassen History Museum has an exceptional collection of historical materials and photos of Vaassen and environment.
Ede is a paradise for hikers and riders; Rustpunt tea garden on the edge of a vast forest and moorland features hiking trails that range from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Fietsvierdaagse Vaassen offers a varied landscape of fragrant purple moors, newly-mown grasslands and pastures in different shades of green, idyllic marshes, lakes, forests, and fens that are best explored on cycle. There are many who prefer to visit the town via cheap flights to Ede just for hiking and cycling in the beautiful environment.
Children will enjoy the trout farm at Emst; besides the three attractive fish ponds, there is a playground with trampolines, spectacular slides, water slides, canoes and ferries.
