About Durham England

Durham Tees Valley, previously known as Teesside International Airport, is an international airport in the northeastern part of England. It is 39 km south from the city of Durham, 16 km southwest of Middlesbrough and 8.7 km from the southeastern part of Darlington. The airport is chiefly used by the inhabitants of North Yorkshire, Teesside and County Durham.

Though one of the smaller airports in the United Kingdom, it is well-connected to several domestic as well as European destinations. So, you can take cheap flights to Durham Tees Valley in order to have a trip to England and Europe. Equipped with a license of Public Use Aerodrome by CAA, this airport is used for public transport of passengers as well as for flying training.

The airport was actually an RAF station which was later turned into an airport called Teesside International Airport; this finally came to be known as Durham Tees Valley Airport in the year 2004. It developed as a part of a major development plan. Its name was changed primarily for a better geographical placement of the airport. Passengers, especially those from abroad, were not familiar with the location of Teesside but were aware of Durham. Hence, the name was changed.

Its range of services and facilities is commendable, which can be a good reason to take cheap flights to Durham Tees Valley. The airport has two outlets of bureau de change, one at the main check-in hall and the other at departures. At these outlets, you can exchange currencies at competitive rates, transfer money abroad through Western Union etc. However, currencies are mostly available on demand. Hence, it is better to pre-order your currency to be on the safe side.

The airport also has facilities of baby changing at both male and female washrooms. This facility is, however, located at the disabled passenger toilet at the baggage reclaim halls.

The airport has its Cashpoint machines at the departure lounge and on the main concourse beside the counter of Travelex.

The airport also has the department of ‘Lost Property’ and payphones. It has ground transport facilities like buses, cars, rail and cabs. Sky Express buses ply between airport and Darlington at regular intervals. The airport has its own railway station which is just a 15-minute walk away. Cabs too are easily available outside it.
