Delfshaven, a Rotterdam borough, lies on the right bank of Nieuwe Maas River in the South Holland province of Netherlands. It is a popular destination for vacationers arriving from all over the world via cheap flights to Delfshaven. The town has a grand heritage, important shipyards, architectural monuments, great shopping opportunities and a vibrant cultural environment.
Delfshaven has a close association with the celebrated Pilgrim Fathers who spent quite a few years in the city before departing for New England; the Old Church Delfshaven, also called Pelgrimvaderskerk, located on the Voorhaven harbour is as old as 1761 and is a concrete marker of that chapter in history. The shipyard is a fascinating place to visit; see the historic ship 'De Delft' being reconstructed, learn about the maritime history of the city, and also enjoy a fabulous view of the river. The Stadsbrouwerij Pilgrim (Pilgrim City Brewery) is a beautiful historic building that once served as the Town Hall. The Distilleerketel (Grain Mill), repeatedly destroyed by fire, is a designated national monument and the sole functioning mill in the region. The historical Museum Dubbelde has an amazing collection of objects of the most diverse nature. The AAA gallery for contemporary art housed in a former distillery has the most wonderful collection of paintings by noted Dutch artists while the Museum of Ceramics Pablo Rueda Lara is dedicated to the ceramic works of the versatile and extremely talented Spanish artist Pablo Rueda Lara. History buffs will love to visit this culturally rich city, with cheap flights to Delfshaven being an added incentive.
Shopping tends to become a voyage of discovery in Delfhaven; there are a number of beautiful shops selling curios, antiques, home accessories and, especially, wedding trousseaus. Treat your palate to a diverse experience; the Café De Oude Sluisre creates a nostalgic past while the best of vegan cuisine can be enjoyed at the BlaBla restaurant. Proeflokaal De Ooievaar is the sole gin-tasting venue in the region and exudes a wonderful Dutch charm. An amazing variety of accommodation is available to the tourist; hotels in Delfshaven are warm and welcoming enough to make you want to visit the place again.
