Chinandega is a very interesting place to visit. It has good beaches, remarkable historic sites and stunning volcanoes at the border. The city center is quite alive especially at night with tourist and locals frequenting the bars, clubs, restaurants and coffee shops. The natives in the city are good-natured and very hospitable and among other cities in Nicaragua, Chinandega is relatively safe and peaceful especially to foreign travelers.
Many people take cheap flights to Chinandega to see the beauty of the Casita, Cosiguina and San Cristobal Volcanoes. These volcanoes are one of the reasons why Chinandega is quite popular not only in Nicaragua but also in neighboring countries. The pristine white sand and clear blue water of Paso Caballos, Puerto Corinto, El Rosario and Jiquilillo Beaches are also equally remarkable. The rocky landscape of Isloted de Cosiguina is also mesmerizing and calls to tourists for exploration. The locals are also proud of the Wetlands at Cosiguina and the Estuary Padre Ramos.
Another nice destination for women who want to enhance their surfing experience and meet equally good ladies is the former Suave Dulce Surf Camp located in Manzano Dos which is now known as Women’s Surf and Yoga Retreat. This place is highly recommended by women all over the world who have experienced the best time of their lives there.
There are no direct cheap flights to Chinandega but from Managua Airport you can ride a bus for 3 US dollar to get to the city. A bus transport from Leon to Chinandega is also available for only 1 US dollar. When you reach the city, exploring won’t be a problem since there are plenty of local buses servicing the city. Rental cars and taxis are also available if you prefer a more convenient means of transportation but if you don’t mind the heat, Chinandega is small and safe enough to be explored on foot.
Also, you won’t have a problem sleeping in Chinandega since there are several good hotels in the city. The Farallones Hotel for example is the cheapest among other hotels in Chinandega. Hotel Los Volcanes on the other hand offers a great view of the volcanoes surrounding the city. It’s also one of the best quality hotels here together with Hotel Los Balcones de Chinandega and Los Portales Hotel.
