The city of Caldas da Rainha is located in central western Portugal and is quite famous for its pottery and hot springs. The city founded by Queen Leonor had hospitals at some hot spring sites. In fact, the literal meaning of the city’s name is Queen’s Spa or Queen’s Hot Springs.

There are several parks and plazas to be enjoyed and visited as well. Parque D. Carlos I, the town center’s large park, is quite an attraction for visitors. At the very middle of the park is the Jose Malhoa Museum which many people frequent. There is a doughnut shaped pond in the park. Another plaza to visit is Republic Plaza which is also called Fruit Plaza since the only regular farmer’s market of Portugal is hosted there.
