About Buzau

Buz?u is situated near the river Buz?u’s right bank in the historically important Wallachia region between the Carpathian Mountains and B?r?gan Plain in south-eastern Romania. Buz?u has become a popular tourist destination for its many attractions that include historical monuments, beautiful architecture, stunning scenic vistas and adventure sports. The availability of plentiful cheap flights to Buz?u ensures that the city is thronged by tourists all year round.

Perhaps the city’s most significant landmark is the Moldavian-style Art Nouveau Communal Palace that now houses the City Hall. Russian cannons destroyed the tower in the Second World War; however, it was restored later. Cuza Voda Street is home to many buildings built in late 19th century South-Eastern European architectural style; these were typically two-storied buildings that had shops on the ground floor and residences of the merchants on top. The George Ciprian Theater is a favourite destination for theatre lovers who can also take time out to visit the city’s museum that is housed in its premises. The museum has numerous exhibits on the regional history, including some interesting funeral pottery and a copy of the well-known Pietroasele Treasure. Nature lovers will find the Crang Park on the town’s western outskirts a relaxing place to sit and walk. A small artificial lake finds many rowers enjoying themselves.

Buz?u County too has a lot of attractions; the Berca Mud Volcanoes in Berca are popular for the wonderful but strange landscape formation with small mud volcanoes, constantly rising bubbles of gas and miniature flows of mud lava. The Ciolanu Monastery, built in 1520, is located in Magura village; the Eastern Orthodox monastery has two beautiful churches, a museum with books, paintings and icons belonging to Gheorghe Tattarescu. An open-air exhibition has around 200 sculptures fashioned by young artists. Among the many hotels in Buz?u that you could choose from, you could do well to consider one near the beautiful Meledic Lake for a weekend stay. The 34 salt caves are ideal for exploration by experienced cavers. The phenomenon of the "Living Fire", a half-meter high flame produced by underground gas leaking, is a wonderful sight. With numerous cheap flights to Buz?u available, it is time you considered a holiday here.
